๐๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ฅ๐: Noach โ ื ึนืึท, Noiach, Nauach, Nauah, or Noah (ื ึนืึทโ, Hebrew for the name “Noah”, the third word, and first distinctive word, of the parashah) is the second weekly Torah portion (ืคึธึผืจึธืฉึธืืโ, parashah) in the annual cycle of Torah reading. It constitutes Genesis 6:9โ11:32. The parashah tells the stories of the Flood and Noah’s Ark, of Noah’s subsequent drunkenness and cursing of Canaan, and of the Tower of Babel.
๐๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง: Genesis 6:9โ11:32
๐๐๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง: Noah was able to prepare because he not only listened to Yahwehโs command to build the Ark BUT he heard (Shema) the command and allowed the directive from Yahweh to change his behavior and life. When we listen it can go in one ear and out the other but when we Shema (Hear) we internalize what we have heard and this allows us to gain wisdom that can change our hearts and even save our lives.
When reading this weekโs Torah portion I find it interesting that when we look at the Tower Babel incident we learn that humans can unite to do wrong but we have a hard time uniting to do what is right. All the time we see people uniting across race, gender, religion and class to do what is wrong but who will unite to do Adonaiโs will? Be careful what you unite to do. Unity is good ONLY when we are unifying in righteousness and justice.
